Start Sunday, October 8th, 2017
For Three Sundays over three months, THESUTRA STUDY SALON will present Yoga’s profound, wisdom teachingsin a meaningful, contemporary context. Join us in our comfortable home/healing center and learn each chapter’s Key Sutras and core principles along with their practical, transformational applications.
Every day, millions of people enjoy group Asana classes. And yet, to fully understand YOGA’S true power, purpose, and potential, we must turn our attention to its foundation text, Patanjali’sYoga Sutras. Presented in succinct, multilayered aphorisms, the Sutras explore the nature of consciousness, reality and the human mind.
Widely accepted as the world’s most important Yogic text, the Sutras offer a wealth of highly adaptable tools and techniques for optimal well-beingand more sustained joy. Complied over 2,300 years ago, the Yoga Sutras pre-vision the contemporary sciences of Positive Psychology, Epigenetics and Quantum Mechanics.
‘A familiarity with the Yoga Sutrasis deeply enriching for any student of life and essential for all authentic teachers of Yoga.’

Chapter Onedefines Yoga and introduces it’s essential concepts and themes examined in greater depth and detail throughout the following chapters.
Yoga is presented as a complete, holistic system of Spiritual Psychology. The chapter outlines Yoga’score strategy for transformation:ongoing practice and reflection performed with an attitude of detached devotion. Patanjali offers several other options, including cultivating a relationship with a higher power, as a means to minimize (or avoid) the inevitable obstacles most of us will encounter throughout our lives.
The Third Chapterexamines the process of Meditation and reveals the scope of mystical knowledge and supernatural powers available to mind freed from distraction. Traditionally, this chapter was only taught to long-time practitioners, students possessing the ability to maintain sustained focus on a chosen object.Patanjali warns that these special gifts, or ‘siddhis’ can be distractions from further progress in Yoga
